State-owned oil & gas giant Qatar Petroleum changes its name to QatarEnergy as part of a push to be seen as a diversified energy company. The move reflects the company’s commitment to lower carbon emissions and accelerate the drive for the energy transition.
Minister of State for Energy Affairs, Saad Sherida al-Kaabi highlighted ‘becoming QatarEnergy reflects our understanding of the global changes and our response to the need to protect our planet. Not only will our LNG projects bring additional cleaner energy to customers across the globe, but we will continue our heightened commitment to our central role in the energy transition.’
Earlier this year, Total rebranded to TotalEnergies in a similar bid to reflect its aim to diversify away from fossil fuels. In order to balance global demand for lower emissions, companies within the energy sector are transitioning towards more sustainable business models and moving to present themselves as providing cleaner energy.
